Just less headaches to get started imo.Once you know what your doing then you can run the other system and compare to see if its good enough for you and your friends OR 24/7. Try the dedicated on your main system so you work through the headaches of port forwarding and whatever.Once you get it working there ,then run a dedciated on your lesser system. I also did a lot of map editing and custom prefabs I put in back in the day and no issues so i've put this game through the ringer on dedicated server with very minimum. You have a more powerful computer with more ram. Any good quadcore I know runs the game totally fine as long as settings are set to medium in the graphics control panel in game.gtx780 and its fine as long as graphics are set not maxed. Running a seperate system is a waste of time and likely give you less performance than your 8 core I7. Like I said, My old i7950 with only 6 gigs runs fine all night long with the friends and I. It will perform better and with all that ram you won't have problems. For you and your friends just wanting to have a well performing stable rig for 7dtd I would run your new I7. Its all very easy once youve done it a couple times. No I just run the server files with game. That makes a huge difference on your rig requirements.24/7 may need a lot more ram and all that to keep running It is not a 24/7 server and only hosting through the night.

Any modern desktop CPU with at least 4 cores will be good enough. Like I said I've had 8 on in 7dtd and nobody complaining of lag but like I said. No videocard needed, except if you want to create huge randomgen worlds on that server in less than a few hours (a videocard gets only used for generating randomgen worlds, without it it takes considerably longer). Maybe its less network tarffic up here in the sticks ? :). There was a time my connection was nowere near 50mbps and not nearly as good with upload yet I have always been able to host games. I've gone through the growing pains of it already lolīTW I think sometimes location and a little luck has to do with hosting a good server. If you need any help with port forwarding issues or multiple rigs online let me know. For you and a few friends I wouldn't be surprised if it works fine.If your using a duel core cpu and trying to run dedicated and play on it you may run into trouble(not sure). Just really not sure about the duel core vs quadcore. Like I said,My i7 950 will run the server in the background as well as the main game with only 6 gigs.50mbps connection on the east coast(Maine) and ive also had a couple people join from overseas. Not sure on that.Is it your main computer rig? If its a backup rig and you want to use it as a dedicated server ,your likely just as well off using your main rig as the server and play on the same machine. Not sure if the upload is good or not for hosting That should be more then enough for hosting a server for you and your friends.
